Connect your AI coding agent
in the way that suits you

The same plan, typed contracts and checks reach your agent three ways. Pick the one that fits how you build — you can switch or use more than one on the same project.

Install

$ npm install -g modular-chunks-cli

Node 18 or newer. Then run chunky login and chunky start — the guided setup scans your project, generates a plan, and hands your agent its first chunk.

How the Modular Chunks CLI works

The platform decides what to build next and writes the typed contract for it. The CLI hands that contract to your agent, then checks what comes back, so done means passed, not "the agent said so."

  1. 01Platform
    Chunk 04 · contractInstructionsTyped I/OGuardrailsEval checklist

    Plans the chunk

Decides what to build next and writes its typed contract: instructions, typed I/O, guardrails and an eval checklist.

    chunky pull
  2. 02CLI
$ chunky next→ Chunk 04 · Score applications$ chunky show 04→ contract copied for your agent

    Hands it to your agent

Prints the next chunk's instructions and contract, ready for your AI coding agent to build.

    Claude Code · building Chunk 04src/scoring.ts · tests/scoring.test.ts

    Builds the chunk

Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP agent writes the code, inside the files and guardrails the chunk allows.

    Checks the output

Runs what came back against the eval checklist, then syncs the result so you can approve it.

Passed

You approve it, and the next chunk comes up

Didn't pass

It goes back to your agent with the reason, and checks again

MCP server

Structured tools for any MCP agent

Run chunky serve and any MCP-compatible agent, such as Claude Code, Cursor or Windsurf, gets the plan, typed contracts and checks as structured tools instead of copy-pasted text. Around 19 tools are registered automatically.

$ chunky serve # MCP stdio — Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf
$ chunky serve --http # HTTP server for non-MCP agents

The tools your agent uses most

get_current_chunkThe current chunk spec with full context
get_session_stateRead build progress, with update_session_state to record it
ask_ctoRoute an architecture question and record the ruling
get_project_contextThe brief, architecture and active guideline

Session state is saved to .modular/cache.json, so a restarted agent picks up exactly where it left off.

Chrome extension

Ask Chunky, beside any tab

The Ask Chunky Chrome extension opens a side panel next to any AI coding tab: Bolt, Lovable, v0, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, StackBlitz and more, with 20 platforms recognised. It has your full project context through your CLI token, so you can ask "what's next?", "explain chunk 3" or "refine the brief" without leaving your work.

  • Every chunk shows as a card with a Copy button, tuned to the platform you're on: build briefs for app builders, conversational asks for chat models
  • A "Chunk 0" preamble gives your agent the venture context before the first technical chunk
  • Right-click "Ask Chunky about this" on any selected text, on any page

Install

  1. Add "Modular Chunks — Ask Chunky" from the Chrome Web Store and pin it
  2. Run chunky login, copy your token, and paste it into the extension's Settings

Private by design: it talks only to modularchunks.com, your token stays in chrome.storage.local, and it never scrapes pages.
